FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Methodist women's tennis team took on nationally ranked Mary Washington on Saturday and were defeated 8-1.
The Eagles went ahead 3-0 after doubles.
Katherine Meindl and
Laura Baker lost 8-3 at number one and
Rachel Purser and
Stacey Brooks lost 8-2 at number three.
Dana Powell and
Kelli Shelton battled to an 8-6 loss at number two.
Methodist lost five of the six singles matches while Baker earned the lone win for the Monarchs at number three singles. After dropping the first set 1-6, she came back and won 6-4 and 1-0 (4). Meindl lost 6-0, 6-2 at number one and Purser lost 6-1, 6-2 at number two. Powell lost 6-1, 6-2 at number four and Shelton lost 6-0, 7-5 at number five before
Lauryn Justice lost 6-0, 6-0 at number six.
The Monarchs will be back in action next weekend when they travel to Guilford College for two matches with the Quakers and Southern Virginia.
