GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Greensboro Pride took two games from the Methodist baseball team on Sunday 4-2 and 6-4 to open USA South Athletic Conference action.

Greensboro (6-2, 2-0) scored a run in the second and third to lead 2-0 early. Methodist countered in the fourth after Cody Molosky reached on an error and stole second. Brandon Thigpen sacrificed him to third and Trey Such singled up the middle to score Molosky. Chris Power and Dustin Brown singled for Such to tie the game at two. Neither team could break the tie until the bottom of the seventh when Greensboro strung together a single and two doubles to take the 4-2 lead. The Pride retired the next six Methodist batters to secure the win.

Power finished 3-for-4 in the game while Matt Quick went 2-for-4.

Chris Perry pitched six innings scattering 10 hits with six strikeouts. Rett Lee pitched two innings of relief to take the loss.

Both teams battled back and forth in game two with Greensboro scoring first with a run in the second. The Monarchs (7-5, 0-2) evened the score in the third after David Lutz drew the lead-off walk, moved to second on Quick's sacrifice and scored on Thigpen's double to right field. The Monarchs loaded the bases with two wlaks, but they were left stranded with a groundout. Methodist led 2-1 after three and a half with an unearned run, but the Pride came right back with two runs in the fourth.

Methodist added two runs in the sixth when Lutz scored on a Molosky single and Molosky scored on a passed ball. Greensboro tied the game at four in the bottom of the sixth putting together three hits. The Monarchs were without a base runner in the seventh and eighth while the Pride took advantage of two hits and two Methodist errors in the bottom of the eighth to go ahead 4-2. Tyler Younger tried to spark a rally in the ninth for the Monarchs with a single up the middle. He moved to second on a passed ball and Power drew the walk, but Greensboro shut down the next two batters to hold on for the 4-2 win.

Thigpen went 2-for-4 in the game to lead the Monarchs.

Andrew Womble went seven innings on the mound with 11 strikeouts while scattering five hits. Josh Ayers finished in relief with two strikeouts in the eighth.

Methodist will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
