Trey Such had one RBI on a sacrifice fly

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team led 5-0 after four innings and held off a late rally from Roanoke to win 5-4 and complete the three-game sweep.

Steven Kirby drew the bases load walk in the second inning to give the Monarchs the 1-0 lead. Trey Such drew his second walk of the game in the third inning and scored on a double from Dustin Brown. Methodist put together three runs in the bottom of the fourth thanks in part to two defensive errors. David Lutz led off with a single and Steven Kirby had an infield single with both runners going onto score.

Roanoke came back with a big fifth inning including a three-run homerun. The Maroons strung together three hits and capitalized on a Methodist error to cut the lead to one, but Methodist's Rett Lee entered in relief to end the inning.

Both teams had just one hit apiece through the remaining three innings as the Monarchs held on for the 5-4 win.

The Monarchs had five hits from Brown, Lutz, Kirby, Brown and Cody Molosky. Michael Inman pitched 4.1 innings while Rett Lee took the win in relief. Rusty White pitched the final inning to get the save.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday at LaGrange College.
