DANVILLE, Va. - The Methodist women's tennis team opened USA South Athletic Conference action with a 9-0 shutout over Averett University.

Methodist took the 3-0 lead after doubles without losing a game. Katherine Meindl and Laura Baker teamed up at number one while Rachel Purser and Dana Powell played number two. Both teams won 8-0 while Emily Talley and Kelli Shelton won by default at number three.

Meindl and Purser won 6-0, 6-1 at number one and two singles respectively. Baker, Powell and Shelton all took 6-0, 6-0 wins at three, four and five singles. Lauryn Justice won the sixth singles match by default.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Mary Baldwin College.
