FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist softball team remains undefeated in the USA South Athletic Conference with 5-0 and 3-2 wins over N.C. Wesleyan College on Tuesday.
The Monarchs (18-6, 8-0) opened the scoring in game one with three runs in the fourth.
Katie Byrd,
Ally Griffin and
Marcy McKee singled to load the bases and Erica Braldey had the RBI single to score Byrd.
Sarah Stapleton reached on an error while pinch runner
Raevin Harvey scored.
Jordan Adams followed up with a sacrifice fly to drive in McKee for the 3-0 lead. Methodist added two insurance runs in the sixth. Adams had a RBI single and went onto score on Alex Winter's single was misplayed by the N.C. Wesleyan defense.
Adams was 1-for-2 with two RBI while Byrd and McKee finished 2-for-3. Bradley was 1-for-2 with a RBI.
Jessica Farmer pitched the complete game scattering four hits with four strikeouts.
Methodist scored first in game two with a run in the second. Griffin, McKee and Bradley singled to load the bases. Griffin was out at home on a fielder's choice, but McKee scored on Adam's single up the middle. The Bishops (10-10, 1-7) took the lead in the fifth inning with two runs on two hits and a defensive error. The Monarchs came up empty in the sixth, but rallied in the seventh.
Katie Byrd sparked the rally with a single through the right side and Griffin squeezed a single between the first baseman and first base line to set up runners on first and third.
Annie Zaremski entered to pinch run for Griffin, but was ruled out on McKee's fielder's choice that allowed Byrd to score the tying run. Bradley singled up the middle to move McKee to second and
Megan Lee came up big with the single down the left field line to score McKee for the game-winning run.
Griffin went 3-for-4 in the game while Adams, McKee and Bradley were 2-for-4. Lee was 2-for-3.
Kayla Malone pitched the complete game scattering four hits with seven strikeouts and one earned run.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to nationally ranked Christopher Newport University.
