RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team overcame both Peace College and Greensboro College by 9-0 scores on Tuesday.
The Monarchs started off strong at first doubles as
Katherine Meindl and
Laura Baker picked up an 8-0 win. At second doubles
Rachel Purser and
Dana Powell won their match 8-0 as well, while at third
Kelli Shelton and
Emily Talley rounded out the doubles matches with another 8-0 win. Methodist carried their momemtum into the singles matches as Baker notched 6-0, 6-0 wins at first singles. At second singles Shelton earned 6-0, 6-3 victories while
Lauryn Justice picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at third. Talley won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles and
Lindsie Bentham won 6-1, 6-1 at number five.
Sara Altman wrapped up the comprehensive victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six.
Against Greensboro College the Monarchs started off with an 8-0 win for Meindl and Baker at first doubles.
Stacey Brooks and
Lindsie Bentham combined to notch an 8-3 victory at second doubles while Altman and
Stephanie Hunter won 8-1 at third to round out the doubles matches. In singles Meindl picked up 6-1, 6-2 wins at first with Purser garnering 6-0, 6-0 victories at number two.
Dana Powell got the win at third singles going 6-0, 6-0 while Shelton won 6-2, 6-0 at number four. The Monarchs ended the day strong as Justice won 6-0, 6-0 and Talley finished with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The Monarchs improve their record to 14-2 on the season and are next in action on Thursday as they resume their match against Meredith that was postponed last week.
