GREENSBORO, N.C. - Methodist scored first, but Guilford powered past the Monarchs with a 14-10 non-conference win Wednesday afternoon.

Brian Armstrong got things started for the Monarchs with a single to right. Trey Such followed up with a home run to give Methodist the early 2-0 lead while breaking the school record for career home runs with his 34th. He would go on to add another home run in the ninth to set the new mark at 35.

Guilford came back and scored three runs on five hits in the bottom of the first, but Methodist's Matt Jack tied it up with a solo shot to left field in the second. The Quakers regained the lead at 6-3 with three runs in the bottom of the second. Armstrong led off with another single in the third and scored on Brandon Thigpen's single to cut the lead to two. Both teams traded runs again with Jack notching his second home run to start the fourth.

The Quakers put together four hits in the fifth while capitalizing on a Methodist error to go ahead 12-5 after five innings. The Monarchs battled back in the sixth when Tyler Younger doubled to right center and moved to third on a balk. Jack tallied a sacrifice fly to score Younger before Dustin Brown followed up with a double. Cody Molosky singled and both runners stole a base before advancing on an error to score Brown. Molosky went on to score on Kirby's pop up to move the Monarchs within four.

Guilford hit a home run of their own in the seventh, but the Monarchs responded with a run in the eighth. The Quakers capped off their scoring in the bottom of the eighth with a run. Such led off the ninth with his second home run, but after a Younger single, the rally fizzled and Guilford finished with the 14-10 win.

Brown led the Monarchs finishing 4-for-5 at the plate. Such was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Armstrong went 3-for-5. Jack was 2-for-4 with three RBI while both Such and Jack had two home runs apiece.

Michael Inman started on the mound. Dylan Moore took the loss in relief while Josh Ayers, Rett Lee, Josh Clarke, Michael Judge, Andrew Womble and Rusty White saw time on the mound.

Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they host Ferrum at 1 p.m. Please join us as we celebrate head coach Tom Austin's 1,000th win with a special recognition before the game.
