Methodist Tops Montclair State

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Methodist baseball team powered through Montclair State on Sunday to earn the 11-7 win over the Red Hawks.

The Monarchs scored two runs in the second inning after two consecutive errors by the Montclair State defense. The Red Hawks came back with three runs in the bottom of the third after stringing together four hits. Methodist regained the lead in the fifth inning after taking advantage of a bases loaded triple from Brian Armstrong. The Monarchs went ahead 7-3 in the sixth after singles from Steven Kirby and Matt Quick. Quick stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

The Red Hawks battled back to tie the game with four runs in the seventh after capitalizing on five walks and a single. Methodist responded in the top of the eighth with singles from Quick and Such. Quick stole second and Cody Molosky drew the walk. Such singled to score Quick and Molosky went on to score on a passed ball. The Monarchs added two insurance runs in the ninth when Armstrong led off with a single and scored on Steven Kirby's double. Kirby moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch to help give Methodist the 11-7 win.

Armstrong finished 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBI. Such was 2-for-3 with a RBI while Quick was 2-for-4 with a RBI. Tyler Younger and Kirby both finished 2-for-5.

Michael Judge pitched three innings while Josh Clarke went two in relief. Reid Berry, Chris Barger, Dylan Moore, Greg Scassera and Josh Ayers all spent time on the mound with Scassera earning the win.

Methodist will be back in action at Piedmont on Monday when they take on Millsaps at noon.
