DEMOREST, Ga. - The Methodist baseball team took a 10-1 loss to Millsaps on Monday to wrap up their weekend at Piedmont College.
Millsaps (10-4) jumped on the Monarchs early with a two-out rally. The Majors scored three runs on two hits, a walk and hit by pitch before adding two unearned runs in the second to lead 5-0. Methodist pitcher
Andrew Womble shut down Millsaps in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but the Majors capitalized with two runs in the sixth. With a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh, Millsaps led 8-0 before the Monarchs rallied in the bottom of the inning.
Steven Kirby led off with a single and
David Lutz drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a groundout and
Trey Such hit the RBI single to score Kirby. The Majors tacked on a run in the eighth and ninth innings to finish with the 10-1 win.
The Monarchs finished with five hits with Such,
Brian Armstrong,
Cody Handshaw,
Matt Jack and Kirby finishing with one each.
Womble went six innings with five strikeouts to take the loss.
Greg Scassera and
Ross Leggett finished on the mound in relief.
Methodist will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Emory & Henry College at 4 p.m. and Penn State Abington at 7:30 p.m.
