FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist completed the sweep over Emory & Henry with a 5-0 win on Wednesday.
The Monarchs had two runners on in the second and fourth innings, but didn't break the scoreless game until the bottom of the sixth.
Brandon Thigpen doubled to center and
Tyler Younger walked. Thigpen moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on
Dustin Brown's single down the left field line.
Chris Power singled to load the bases and
Steven Kirby reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Younger to score giving Methodist the 2-0 lead.
Methodist picked up where they left off in the seventh with a lead-off double from
Matt Quick.
Cody Molosky moved him to third on a sacrifice.
Trey Such reached on a fielder's choice when Emory & Henry tried to get Quick going home, but threw it away. Thigpen followed up with a blast over the fence in right field to put the Monarchs up by five.
Rett Lee pitched eight solid innings not giving up a hit until the seventh and finished with just two hits and nine strikeouts.
Josh Ayers finished the ninth in relief.
Thigpen finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBI while Power was 2-for-4.
Methodist will be back in action on Thursday when they host Immaculata at 4 p.m.
