KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Methodist softball team took a 3-1 loss to Albion to start the day, but came back with a 9-4 win over Bluffton University.
Albion took the early 1-0 lead in the first and added a run in the third to lead 2-0. The Monarchs got on the board in the fifth after
Jordan Adams drew the walk. She moved to second on a wild pitch before advancing to third on
Katie Byrd's groundout. Adams went on to score on a wild pitch to cut the lead to one. Albion added an insurance run in the sixth ad the Monarchs tried to rally in the seventh with hits from Byrd and
Rachel Chapman, but Albion held on for the 3-1 win.
Megan Lee added the Monarchs' other hit.
Jessica Farmer pitched the complete game scattering seven hits with four strikeouts.
Methodist struck early in the second game picking up two quick runs. Adams and Lee singled before
Krista Zentner's single scored Adams. Lee went onto score on an error for the 2-0 lead. The Monarchs had bases loaded in the second, but it was Bluffton who rallied for a run in the fifth on two singles. Methodist went ahead 3-1 in the fifth after Adams led off with a double and scored on an error.
Bluffton tied the game in the sixth on two unearned runs, but the Monarchs blew it open in the bottom of the sixth with six runs on seven hits.
Erica Bradley,
Lindsay Tippett and
Katie Byrd all doubled during the rally while
Krista Zentner had a triple. The Beavers scored one in the seventh, but Methodist shut down the inning for the 9-4 win.
Adams and
Marcy McKee were 2-for-3 in the game. Zentner finished 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.
Methodist will finish out their spring break games on Friday against Westminster and Catholic.
