FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist jumped out to the 9-0 lead and cruised to a 9-2 win over Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday.
Methodist started things off with four runs in the first thanks in part to a two-RBI triple by
Tyler Younger.
Matt Quick followed up with a single to score Younger and Quick stole second and third before scoring on
David Lutz's single.
The Monarchs kept things going in the second to take the 8-0 advantage.
Cody Molosky doubled and then
Trey Such,
Brandon Thigpen and Younger all singled.
Steven Kirby finished the rally with a two-RBI single to score Such and Thigpen.
Methodist loaded the bases in the fifth before adding a run in the sixth. Such drew the lead-off walk and Thigpen singled. Younger loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch and Such scored on Quick's sacrifice fly.
Hampden-Sydney got on the board in the eighth after two reached on a walk and a single to set up a two-RBI triple. The Monarchs shut down the Tigers in the ninth to finish with the 9-2 win.
Chris Perry and
Michael Judge each pitched two scoreless innings.
Dylan Moore,
Michael Inman,
Andrew Womble,
Reid Berry and
Chris Barger finished in relief with one inning apiece.
The Monarchs will be back in action this weekend when they host Emory Saturday at 1 p.m.
