FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Mary Washington took the early 4-0 lead. Methodist chipped away at it and tried to rally in the ninth, but came up short 4-3 in the season finale.

The Eagles talied a run in the second on a double and RBI single before going ahead 3-0 in the third. An insurance run in the fourth proved to be the game-winning run.

The Monarchs got on the board in the fifth when Matt Quick led off with a single and scored on Dustin Brown's triple to left center. Brown cut the lead in half when he scored on Steven Kirby's groundout. Neither team scored through the next three and a half innings leaving Methodist to rally in the top of the ninth.

Matt Jack drew a walk and Josh Tulledge came on to pinch run. Tulledge moved to second on a wild pitch. Quick reached on an error and Brown walked to load the bases. Kirby grounded out, but Tulledge scored on the play cutting the lead to one. Mary Washington shut down the rally with a strikeout to end the game and take the 4-3 win.

Brian Armstrong was 2-for-5 at the plate while Brandon Thigpen and Brown went 1-for-3. Kirby finished with two RBI.

Michael Judge and Michael Inman went two innings apiece on the mound. Andrew Wombled pitched three scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts while Rusty White finished in the ninth.
