Sewanee Spoils Women's Soccer 2012 Opener, 2-1

Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Methodist women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Sewanee in its 2012 season opener on Saturday evening.
 
The Tigers (1-0) opened the scoring at the 14:42 mark of the opening half when Caitlin Sneeden scored off a feed from Ellie Quinn.
 
Despite outshooting the Tigers 6-5 in the opening 45:00, MU was unable to find an equalizer heading into the break.
 
In the second period, Sewanee made it a 2-0 game with on an unassisted tally by Bobbe Chaffin at the 50:38 mark. Methodist freshman Katie Pedersen netted her first collegiate goal just over six minutes later to trim the Monarchs' defict to a single goal, but Sewanee managed to hang on for 2-1 win.

Each team finished with 10 shots for the game and Methodist generated more set pieces, earning seven corner kicks to the Tigers' three.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they take on Birmingham Southern at 12:00 pm.
