LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Senior
Stephanie Wood recorded 18 kills against just two hitting errors and for the second consecutive match the Methodist volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit, as the Monarchs downed Randolph College, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon at the RAD Center.
With its second come-from-behind win in as many matches, Methodist recorded its fifth straight win to improve to 8-5 on the season. The Monarchs dispatched the WildCats, 21-25, 25-16, 16-25, 25-18, 15-6.
Wood posted a robust hitting percentage of .640 as her 18 kills came on just 25 swings. She was joined in double-digits in kills by juniors
Risa Smith (12) and
Brittany McCoy (10). Junior
Kendra Krupp directed the offense, racking up 47 assists to go with eight digs.
Defensively, freshman
Karly Klimas led the way with 14 digs, while junior
Allison Graves and Smith added 13 and 11, respectively. Senior
Hayley Williams contributed eight total blocks (3 solo) and McCoy posted seven blocks, including two solo efforts. Wood and sophomore
Ryanne Greer each added a pair of service aces.
Grayce Darden and Celine Rhodes led Randolph with 12 kills apiece while Kerry McMichael (24 assists) and Andrea Mewhinney (16 assists) shared the setting duties. Lexi Harrington led the WildCats with 17 digs.
The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday when they host Salem at 7:00 pm.
