Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team overcame a slow start to cruise past Mary Baldwin, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The Monarchs, who improved to 5-7-0 (3-2-0 USA South) with the win, overcame an early 1-0 deficit by scoring the game's final five goals, including four in the second half.
The Fighting Squirrels (4-5-0, 0-5-0 USA South) drew first blood as Caitlin Novak intercepted a pass deep in the Monarch defensive end and beat junior goalkeeper
Sarah Hayden in the 20

In the second half, MU took control of the contest with a pair of goals in the opening five minutes. Senior
Brooke Corley began the scoring when she scored off a feed from sophomore
Sean Edwards just 2:36 into the second period. Just over a minute later, the Monarchs extended their lead to 3-1 when
Jessie Oder found the back of the net a second time, this time off an assist from freshman Katie Pederson at the 48:53 mark.
Methodist held its two-goal advantage until the 81
st minute, when junior
Kelly Wolz scored to make it 4-1 in favor of the Monarchs. Just over two minutes later, Wolz struck again as she redirected a cross from sophomore
Shawn Sherry past MBC's Erica Dullahan at the 82:47 mark to conclude the scoring.
For the game, the Monarchs held an overwhelming 30-3 advantage in shots and took 10 corner kicks while not conceding a single one. Hayden, who played all 90:00 in goal, made one save for the Monarchs, while Dullahan came up with 12 saves for Mary Baldwin.
Methodist returns to the pitch on Wednesday, travelling to Salem for a 4:00 pm contest.
