Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team won its 10th conference title and first regular-season crown since 1996, defeating visiting Huntingdon, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Before facing the Hawks (3-11-2, 1-7-0 USA South), the Monarchs (8-6-2, 6-1-1 USA South) took a moment to recognize its four-man senior class.
In the first half, Methodist struck first as
Hank Tobener scored in the 20th minute, giving MU a 1-0 lead that it carried into the break at halftime. In the second half,
Eric McGinnis tacked on his team-high ninth goal of the season at the 52:11 mark, putting the Monarchs up, 2-0.
Seth Harrison earned an assist on the play. To cap Methodist's offensive output,
David Korneliusson tallied his first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute.
By the time the final buzzer sounded, Methodist finished with a 24-4 advantage over the Hawks in shots.
MU goalkeeper
Nick Martens earned the win, playing the first 81:07 and making a single save. He was relieved by
Jordan Kerr, who also stopped a single shot. Huntingdon's Sebastian Garcia was tagged with the loss, making 10 saves.
Methodist will wrap up its regular-season schedule when it hosts Ferrum on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm matchup.
