Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Hampden-Sydney scored the game's final three runs in rallying for an 8-6 win over the Methodist baseball team at Armstrong-Shelley field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Monarchs (7-6) had scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Steven Kirby double that plated Cody Molosky and Ronnie Hatfield to take a 6-5 lead before the Tigers (5-6-1) plated a single run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to earn the win.

In the eighth, Andrew Tucker doubled to center field with one out to drive in Hunter Lewis and tie the game at 6-6. Then in the ninth, Patrick Kuhns singled off Michael Judge with one out and moved up to second on a walk to Kyle Lung. After a popout gave MU two outs in the inning, Christian Hamlett singled to the right side to drive in one run and give H-SC a 7-6 lead. The Tigers scored the game's final run on wild pitch as Lung scampered home from third.

MU attempted to rally in the bottom of the ninth. Cody Molosky singled to lead off the inning and with one out moved to second on Travis Johnson's single to the left side. However, Luke Rabiej induced a groundout and a strikeout to end the threat.

Both teams started quickly as H-SC built a 4-0 lead after a half inning before Methodist came back with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Tyler Younger's two-run triple plated the first two runs for the Monarchs and Ray Lanners added a sacrifice fly to center that scored Younger to make it 4-3.

Methodist tied the game at 4-4 in the fourth inning on Molosky's RBI single to right and after H-SC scored in the top of the sixth to make it 5-4, the Monarchs countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to take their first lead, 6-5.

Judge took the loss (2-3) for the Monarchs after surrendering two runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout in 1.2 innings. Dan Nicoll earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning. He did not allow a base runner and struck out a pair.

Molosky finished the day a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI a run scored and a stolen base to lead the Monarchs. Kirby and Younger both finished 2-for-5 with a pair of runs driven in.

Hamlett, Andrew Tucker and Jeff Gray all had three base hits for Hampden-Sydney as the Tigers' first four hitters finished a combined 10-for-19 with five runs scored and four driven in. Kuhns added two hits in five at-bats with a run driven in.

The Monarchs are back on the field on Saturday when they play a doubleheader at Christopher Newport beginning at 11:00 am.
