Box Score FAYETEVILLE, N.C. -- Lynchburg College pounded out 20 hits and scored eight runs over the first two innings in posting a 13-7 win over the Methodist baseball team on Tuesday afternoon.

The loss drops MU to 8-13 on the season, while the Hornets move to 9-7 overall.

The Hornets got things going right off the bat as Ashton Paige led off the game with a triple to right field. He would on Lincoln Evans' sacrifice fly for an early 1-0 lead. After Michael Kenah flied out for the second out of the inning, the Hornets' next six batters reached base and Jay Kenyon and Will Parsons each recorded two-run base hits as LC took a 5-0 lead after one.

Methodist promptly answered in the bottom of the first inning with a pair of runs to trim its deficit to three (5-2). Travis Johnson drew a one-out walk and moved up to second on Brandon Thigpen's single to right. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and would come in to score when the Hornets misplayed Chris Power's ground ball.

In the second inning, LC extended its lead to 8-2 as the first five batters of the inning all reached via singles. The Hornets tacked on two more in the fifth on Paige's two-run single that made it a 10-2 contest.

Methodist fought back, plating one run in the sixth when Power walked, stole second, stole third and came in on Matt Jack's sacrifice fly center. In the seventh, MU struck for four runs, including Steven Kirby's two-run double to inch to within three at 10-7.

However, the Hornets added three more runs in the top of the ninth to keep the Monarchs at bat and post the win.

Matt Matthews started for Lynchburg and took the win, surrendering three runs (2 ER) on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Zac Patrick picked up the save with 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.

Chris Barger, one of six MU pitchers on the day, took the loss. He allowed five runs on four this and a walk in just 0.2 innings. Mikie Morrison tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief. He gave up three hits and struck out three.

Thigpen finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI for the Monarchs. Kirby was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs driven in and a run scored and Alex Rodriguez had two hits in four at bats while scoring a run.
