ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.-- The Methodist women's tennis team eased into the finals of the USA South Conference Tournament with a 9-0 win over Maryville in the semifinal round at N.C. Wesleyan.
The top-seeded Monarchs had little trouble with the Scots, winning handily in each three doubles matches before winning 5-of-6 singles matches in straight sets. Kat Meindl and
Laura Baker opened things up with an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles and
Hillary Petruska and
Isabella Graf followed suit with an 8-1 win at No. 2.
Rachel Purser and
Emily Talley completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Meindl cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and Baker posted a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, Graf played to a 6-3, 6-4 win and
Kelli Shelton posted a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 4. It was Purser winning at No. 5 singles for Methodist (6-0, 6-0), while Petruska endured a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at No. 6.
With the win, the Monarchs advance to face second-seeded CNU for the conference tournament championship and its accompanying bid to the NCAA Tournament. The two teams will face off on Sunday at 10:00 am.
