Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Guilford College baseball team scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie and knock off Methodist, 7-5, on Wednesday evening at Armstrong-Shelley Field.

Corey Wallace singled in the ninth inning to drive in Herc Ingels, who beat Cody Molosky's throw to the plate, to break the tie and give Guilford (18-18) a 6-5 lead. Wallace, who advanced to third on the play, was then driven home on a sacrifice fly to center by Charles Noble for a two-run advantage.

The Monarchs, who had rallied from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game in the seventh, nearly rallied in the ninth, putting runners on the corners with nobody as Brandon Thigpen singled, moved the second on Tyler Younger's single and then stole third. However, Stephen Nalls followed with a line drive that was snared by GC's Jacob Roberts, who was able to catch Younger off of first for a double play. Justin Morrison then completed the save with a strikeout of David Lutz to end the game.

Guilford had taken a 5-1 lead into the seventh inning before the Monarchs tallied four runs in the frame to tie the contest. Cody Molosky walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on Chris Power's walk. MU loaded the bases on Ronnie Hatfield's infield single and Steven Kirby drove in Molosky with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 5-2. Thigpen made it 5-3 with a double that plated Power. After Drew Crawford came on in relief and retired the first two batters he faced, Lutz doubled through the left side to bring home Kirby and Thigpen and tie the game at 5-5.

Travis Johnson , who came on in relief of Aaron O'Neill, took the loss for Methodist. He allowed two runs (1 ER) on six hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. O'Neill gave up five earned runs on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

Crawford picked up the win for Guilford. He did not allow a run while giving up one hit with one walk and one strikeout in 1.2 innings. Morrison nailed down the save with a scoreless ninth, allowing two hits.

Power was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for Methodist, while Thigpen was 2-for-4 with a run scored a stolen base and an RBI.  Younger finished 2-for-3 and Molosky was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Ingels was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored out of the leadoff spot for Guilford. Dan Ditota had three hits in four at bats, driving in two and scoring once, while Wallace finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
