ATLANTA, Ga. --
Steven Kirby collected four hits and
Michael Judge did not allow a run in 6.1 innings of relief as the Methodist baseball team earned a 10-6 win at Emory on Saturday afternoon.
Kirby finished the day 4-for-5 with a stolen base, two runs scored and an RBI, and Judge, who came on in relief of
Daniel Royer, picked up his fourth win of the season allowing five hits and three walks with two strikeouts.
Both teams came out swinging the bats well, with Emory taking a 6-5 lead after three innings before the Monarchs answered with two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to earn the win.
Methodist took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by
Ray Lanners and
Ronnie Hatfield before Emory came back to take a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the frame. The Monarchs countered with three runs in the top of the second, including an RBI double off the bat of Kirby, to regain the lead, 5-4. Emory rallied once again, tallying single runs in both the second and third innings to take back the lead, 6-5.
In the fourth,
Chris Power singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on
Cody Molosky's sacrifice bunt. Kirby singled to put runners on the corners and
Brandon Thigpen's RBI groundout tied the game at 6-6 with two outs in the inning.
Travis Johnson followed with an RBI single before being thrown out trying to make it to second as Methodist retook the lead for good at 7-6.
The Monarchs then took advantage of a pair of Emory fielding miscues in the sixth to tack on three insurance runs, including
Stephen Nalls' RBI single to cap the scoring and give MU a four-run cushion.
Royer lasted just 2.2 innings for Methodist, surrendering six runs (3 ER) on six hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.
Power and Molosky both finished 2-for-5 and scored a pair of runs for the Monarchs. Nalls was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while
Brandon Thigpen drove in two runs and scored twice without the benefit of a base hit
