Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Alex Rodriguez's two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and lifted the Methodist baseball team to a 6-4 win over Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at Armstrong-Shelley field.

The Monarchs (17-18, 11-13 USA South), who fell behind 3-0 early, won for the ninth time in their last 12 games and have secured the No. 6 seed in the upcoming USA South Tournament. Greensboro fell to 15-22 overall and 8-16 in league play.

The Pride jumped on MU starter Michael Judge, scoring three times on six hits in the first inning. The first four Greensboro batters singled to lead off the game, with Steven Pfeiffer's single plating a pair of runs for a 2-0 lead. Judge then got Cody York out on strikes before Christian Snider singled to score James Feldmann. The Monarchs dodged a bullet on the play as Pfeiffer was gunned down at the plate by shortstop Stephen Nalls for the second out of the inning. After a Bill Wooding single, Judge got Josh Powell to fly out to right to end the inning.

Judge settled down after that, allowing just one more run on four hits. He earned a no decision after allowing four runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts in 5.0 innings.

The Monarchs scored their first run of the game in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez to cut GC's lead to 3-1. Greensboro got the one run back in the fifth inning when Pfeiffer beat out a potential double-play ball that allowed Matt Irwin to score and make it 4-1.

Tyler Younger made it 4-2 with an RBI groundout in the fifth and Travis Johnson added an RBI single in the inning as the Monarchs pulled to within a run at 4-3. In the sixth inning, Rodriguez drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a sacrificed bunt and took third on a groundout before tying the game at 4-4 on Ronnie Hatfield's single with two outs.

In the seventh inning, Younger drew a one-out walk and Stephen Nalls then walked with two outs giving the Monarchs runners on first and second with two outs. Rodriguez then doubled to deep right field on a 1-2 count and Nalls scored from first, sliding in under the tag of Josh Powell for a 6-4 lead.

Josh Ayers, who had replaced Judge in the sixth inning, did not allow a hit the final two innings as he picked up the win. He surrendered just one hit and one walk with one strikeout in 4.0 innings. Kyle Zembsch, one of five Pride pitchers on the day, was saddled with the loss. He allowed two runs without giving up a hit. He walked two and struck out one in 0.2 innings.

Rodriguez finished 1-for-2 with a walk, three RBIs and a run scored to lead Methodist. Hatfield finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, Steven Kirby was 2-for-5 with a run scored and Chris Power had two hits in five at bats for Methodist.

Irwin led GC at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Feldmann added two hits in four at basts with a run scored and Pfeifer was 1-for-4 with three RBIs.

Methodist will now play third-seeded Averett in the opening round of the USA South Tournament on Thursday at 8:00 pm at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C.
