Methodist Men’s Soccer Snaps Losing Streak, Shuts Out Southern Virginia, 4-0

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Keyed by two-goal performances by both Seth Harrison and Eric McGinnis, the MU men's soccer team defeated visiting Southern Virginia, 4-0, in a Thursday afternoon match at the Monarch Soccerplex.
                                
The Monarchs' (2-4-1) McGinnis ended his personal four-game goal-scoring drought when he beat Knights (0-6-0) goalkeeper Scott Zaring in an one-on-one situation at the 40:02 mark, giving the hosts an 1-0 advantage that they carried into halftime. McGinnis would find the back of the net again in the 53rd minute, extending the Monarchs' lead to 2-0.
 
Harrison added his first two career goals in the 84th and 89th  minute, respectively, making it a four-goal game. Skyler Simmonds and Foday Kamara earned assists on those scoring strikes, respectively.
 
Methodist held a 31-1 advantage in shots over Southern Virginia as it spent the majority of the afternoon on its opponent's side of the field. Martens (2-4-1) made a single save in goal for the Monarchs, earning his first victory since September 1 against Rhodes. Knights goalkeeper Zaring (0-5-0) remained winless, stopping five shots.
 
MU will wrap up its four-game homestand when it squares off Sunday with USA South foe Greensboro at 1:00 pm.
