Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's soccer team used
Eric McGinnis' third goal in two games to secure the victory, 1-0, over visiting Greensboro in a Sunday afternoon USA South matchup at the Monarch Soccerplex.
Playing in its conference opener, Methodist (3-4-1, 1-0-0) scored the lone goal of the game off a set piece near the midfield line in the 13th minute. Following a foul against GC (3-3-2, 1-1-0), MU's
Frank Barone booted a free kick downfield, and McGinnis finished the play with a header past goalkeeper Manbi Nyepon, making it, 1-0, on the scoreboard and eventually in the books.
Nick Martens (3-3-1) held down the fort in goal for the Monarchs, making four saves, as the team posted its second consecutive shutout win. The Pride's Nyepon (3-2-1) stopped three shots and had his shutout streak halted at 147:50.
With its season-long four-game homestand now complete, Methodist will continue its stretch of six consecutive USA South matches as it travels to Averett on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
