Box Score DANVILLE, Va. - The Methodist men's soccer fell, 2-1, to host Averett in a Friday afternoon showdown that went into two overtimes.
Less than two minutes after MU's (3-5-1, 1-1-0 USA South)
Sean MacDonald was given a red card, AU (3-5-1, 1-1-0) emerged victorious with an own goal at the 108:49 mark.
Earlier in the game, Averett struck first as Nathan Brown fired a shot into one of the corners of the goal, making it, 1-0, in the 43rd minute. It would remain that same score as the halftime buzzer sounded.
Methodist knotted things up at the 64:29 mark as
Mike Ilodigwe booted a rebound past Averett goalkeeper Martin Erenstedt, making it an 1-1 game.
The Monarchs owned a 16-10 advantage in shots, including a 13-6 edge following the first half.
MU's
Nick Martens (3-5-1) took the loss in goal, stopping three shots. AU's Erenstedt (2-1-0) picked up the win, also making three saves.
Methodist will return to the pitch on Sunday, this time against host Piedmont at 3:00 pm.
