Box Score GALLOWAY, N.J. - In both teams' second game of the annual Seashore Classic, host Richard Stockton bested MU, 2-0, in a men's soccer matchup on Saturday afternoon at G. Larry James Stadium.
The Ospreys (3-1) scored an unassisted goal in the ninth minute of action as Chris Katona broke free and beat Methodist (1-2-1) goalkeeper
Nick Martens, making it a 1-0 game.
In what became a physical first half of play, the Monarchs were called for two red cards in the span of less than 15 minutes.
MU's
Frank Barone was carded at 24:48, putting the team down a man on the pitch. Stockton would capitalize on this advantage when Ian Carmelia scored at 32:55, giving the Ospreys a 2-0 edge. Anthony Colofranson earned the assist. Another red card was issued against Methodist at the 37:40 mark, which was charged to
Foday Kamara, giving Stockton a two-man edge.
In spite of this advantage, Stockton recorded no shots in the remaining 7:20 of the first half, but both teams left the field of play with the Ospreys ahead, 2-0, at the half. MU tied Stockton in terms of shots on goal (3-3) in the first half while trailing in terms of shots (5-7).
The next shot for either team would not come until nearly seven minutes into the second half. Methodist did not record another shot on goal until
Eric McGinnis booted one right in the hands of Osprey goalkeeper Bob Millar at the 81:54 mark.
MU's Martens (1-2-1) took the loss, making two saves. Stockton's Millar (2-1) earned the victory and stopped four shots.
Next time out the Monarchs will play their home opener on Saturday against Christopher Newport at 3:00 pm.
