Harrison's Late Goal Lifts MU Men's Soccer Over Maryville, 1-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Seth Harrison's goal in the 87th minute broke a scoreless tie and lifted the Methodist men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Maryville College on Sunday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.

The Monarchs (9-2-1, 4-2-0 USA South) dominated the score sheet, outshooting Maryville (7-4-1, 3-2-1 USA South) 22-6 overall and 13-2 in shots on goal. However, Ben Munger kept the Scots in the game making 11 saves in goal.

Methodist appeared to be in position to take the lead in the first half when Munger was caught out of position, but Stefan Cyvin's shot was cleared off the line by Thomas Palmer to preserve the 0-0 game in the 34th minute.

Maryville's best scoring chance came about 10 minutes before Harrison's goal when Seth Douthat ripped a shot past MU's Alex Rabone but hit the right post  before it was safely cleared.

Harrison's game-winning tally came after he collected a loose ball on the left flank about 40 yards out. He split a pair of defenders 25 yards out and dribbled to the top of the 18 where he eluded a third Maryville player before ripping a shot past a diving Munger. It was his sixth goal of the season and first in the last seven matches.

Rabone made two saves on the day in recording his sixth shutout of the season.

Methodist is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Averett at 2:00 pm.
