Box Score LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Methodist men's soccer team blanked yet another team in the 2014 season as it bested the host LaGrange Panthers, 6-0, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs move to 11-2-1 overall and 6-2 in conference play. With the loss, LaGrange falls to 1-14-1 on the season and 0-8 against the USA South.
The Monarchs got off to an early 1-0 lead in the first minute when Seth Harrison, assisted by Sean MacDonald, netted his eighth goal of the season, marking the lone goal of the first half.
The Monarchs continued to put on the pressure on LaGrange goalkeeper AJ Wilson throughout the remainder of the first half, forcing him to make four saves. LaGrange had a chance to even the score in the 44th minute with a penalty kick by Raymond Haas, but MU goalkeeper Alex Rabone was able to make the save, preserving Methodist's 1-0 lead at the start of halftime.
MU started the half's scoring early once again, extending its lead to 2-0 as Eirik Nordseth capitalized off a feed from Chris Ryan in the 48th minute.
Nahom Hargwoin, with an assist from David Korneliusson, pushed Methodist to a 3-0 advantage in the 53rd minute.
Ben Gold notched his first goal of the season in the 64th minute, putting MU ahead 4-0.
Just two minutes later, Nordseth was able to find the back of the net once again after taking a pass from Remington Christman, giving the Monarchs a comfortable 5-0 lead.
To cap the day's scoring, AJ Lee tallied an unassisted goal in the 74th minute, putting the final score at 6-0 in Methodist's favor.
On the day, Methodist's offense outshined Lagrange's, outshooting the Panthers 18-1 with 12 on frame. Rabone walked away with the win after making one save in 72:55 before being replaced by Logan Ratner, who played the final 17:05, and was not forced to make a save. LC's Wilson takes the loss, after replacing starting goalkeeper, Jim Whitehead, allowing six goals and making five saves.
Methodist returns to the pitch tomorrow afternoon when it travels to Montgomery, Ala. to take on the Huntingdon College Hawks. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 pm.
