FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Despite taking an early lead, the Methodist volleyball team fell, 3-1, to Roanoke College on Thursday evening at the Riddle Center.

The Monarchs (10-11) took the first set, 26-24, before Roanoke (14-7) evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 win in set two. Tied 13-13 in the third set, Roanoke pulled away for a 25-18 win and a 2-1 lead, before sealing the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

Grace Crawford led the MU offense with 10 kills, and
Ryann Appleby,
Brittany Lewis and
Breanna Graham all had eight kills in a balanced attack.
Maggie Harris added 35 assists and three service aces.

On the defensive side, three different Monarchs recorded at least 10 digs, led by 15 from
Karly Klimas.
Chyenne Pump had 11 and Harris chipped in 10. Appleby and Crawford each had a pair of blocks.

For Roanoke, Brooke Bostwick had a match-high 17 kills and hit .433. Sarah Long and Allison White contributed 13 and 11 kills, respectively, and Kylah Blackmore chipped in seven. Jessica Block had 27 assists and Alexandra Martin added 17.

Christen Zammit led the defense with 22 digs, while Block and Macey Tyree each had 10. Bostwick had five blocks, and Tyree and Logan Graves each had two.

Methodist returns to the court on Saturday at Meredith where it will take on LaGrange at 12:00 pm and Huntingdon at 2:00 pm.
