Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist baseball team rallied from a four-run deficit and later withstood a late push by visiting Emory to win, 12-9, on Sunday afternoon at Armstrong-Shelley Field.

The Monarchs (5-2) trailed 8-4 through seven innings after two three-run innings by the Eagles (6-4) in the fourth and sixth, respectively.

In its turn to bat in the eighth, Methodist had nine consecutive base hits, capped by
Lucas Scott's tiebreaking three-run double. Following
Steven Kirby's run-scoring infield single, the Monarchs held a 12-8 lead through eight completed innings.

In the Emory's ninth, Monarch pitcher
Jacob Shumate surrendered a one-out sacrifice fly off the bat of Jared Welch, but retired Jordan Selbach on a flyball to right field to nail down the win.

Chris Power finished the day with four hits, including a triple, three runs scored and two RBI for Methodist. Scott had two base hits and drove in four, and
Stephen Nalls reached base three times as he went 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored.

Shumate (1-0) earned the win with two innings of relief and gave up two hits and one run.

Brandon Hannon had four base hits for Emory, and Daniel Iturrey went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Wes Peacock finished with two hits and two runs scored.

Emory reliever Mike Bitanga (1-1) took the loss as he pitched one inning and surrendered five hits and four runs.

Methodist travels for its next action this upcoming weekend as it will play at Averett. It will square off with the Cougars in a doubleheader on Saturday with first pitch set for 11:00 pm.
