Box Score 2 FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader versus William Peace on Wednesday evening at Monarch Field. Game scores were 9-5 and 8-2, respectively.

In the opener, a seven-run second inning by the visiting Pacers as well as six MU fielding errors spelled trouble for the home team.

Leading by a 1-0 margin after one inning, Methodist soon fell behind during the second. WPU scored seven runs with two outs, and the Monarchs made four errors in that half-inning alone.

MU did manage to tally two runs in the bottom half of the frame via a
Heather Williams run-scoring triple and a
Kelsey Harrington RBI single to make it a 7-3 game. In the fourth, the Monarchs scored twice more to make draw within two runs at 7-5.
Allyson Aycock drove in a run with a single, and
Lindsay Tippett crossed the plate on a Pacers fielding error. William Peace, however, scored two insurance runs in the fifth to account for the final score of 9-5.

Harrington and
Krista Zentner had two hits apiece for Methodist. Monarchs starting pitcher
Sarah Stapleton (1-5) took the loss after throwing 5.0 innings. She gave up nine runs (0 ER) on six hits and three walks and struck out two.

Casey Taylor went 2-for-4, and Brandi Stamey drove in two runs and stole a base for WPU. Aaryn Deal (8-7) earned the complete-game victory in the pitcher's circle as she went the distance. In her 7.0 innings of work, she surrendered five runs (3 ER) on 10 hits and one walk. She struck out three.

Later on in the nightcap, the Pacers (14-16, 10-8 USA South) totaled 18 hits on their way to an 8-2 victory over the Monarchs (8-19, 5-11 USA South).

Harrington and
Morgan Prince each drove in a run for MU. Methodist game two starter
Brittany Miller (4-8) was the losing pitcher. She pitched 5.0 innings and allowed four runs (3 ER) on 12 hits and one walk.

Stamey batted a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and scored once for William Peace. Shay went 3-for-4 with a double, and Lindsey Wiggins had two hits, two RBI and two runs scored. Heather Dindinger (5-6) pitched a complete game to tally the win. She tossed 7.0 innings and gave up two runs on seven hits and two walks. She struck out four.

The Monarchs return to action tomorrow afternoon against visiting Randolph-Macon. First pitch of game one is set for 4:00 pm.
