Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Methodist softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Meredith on Sunday afternoon. Game scores were 6-1 and 9-1, respectively.

To begin the day, the Monarchs scored the first run as Sarah Stapleton crossed the plate on a Krista Zentner two-out RBI single in the first inning, but could not hold on to that edge.

Meredith charged ahead on Ashley Green's three-run double in the bottom half of the frame, and never looked back on its way to the victory. Green would later drive in a run in the third via a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game, and the Avenging Angels added runs in the fourth and sixth innings to cap the scoring.

Stapleton went 2-for-4 with a stolen base for Methodist. Brittany Miller (4-10) pitched a 6.0-inning complete game, and gave up six runs (1 ER) on 11 hits. She walked one and struck out one.

Green hit two doubles and drove in four for Meredith, which had 11 hits in the opener overall. Amanda White had two base hits and scored twice, and Alyssa D'Arco finished with two hits and two runs scored as well.              Amanda Beirne (16-13) threw a seven-hitter to earn the victory. She pitched 7.0 innings and gave up a run. She walked three and struck out five.

In the nightcap, Meredith triggered the mercy rule after six innings to win by a 9-1 margin.

Once again, the Monarchs (8-23, 5-13 USA South) crossed the plate first, but could not slow down the Avenging Angels' (17-17, 11-9) offensive attack. Ahead by just a run going into the bottom of the third, Methodist saw Meredith tally five runs to go up, 5-1. Lorri Cole hit a two-run homer to get things rolling, and D'Arco wrapped the scoring in the half-inning with a two-run triple down the right field line.

A pair of two-run innings in the fourth and sixth, respectively, sealed the doubleheader sweep for Meredith.

Marcy McKee batted 2-for-2 for the Monarchs, which totaled six base hits in game two. Stapleton (1-6) was tagged with the loss as she threw 3.0 innings. She surrendered five runs on four hits and three walks and struck out one.

White went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and scored three times for the Avenging Angels. Beirne pitched yet another complete game with 6.0 innings. She scattered six hits and allowed one run to go along with two walks and five strikeouts.

Up next for Methodist will be a doubleheader at Ferrum on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm in Ferrum, Va.
