FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's tennis topped visiting Meredith, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Monarch Tennis Courts.
In a matchup of two teams that were both undefeated in USA South play this spring, the Monarchs (16-2) won out against the Avenging Angels (9-3).
Methodist began the action with a 2-1 edge courtesy of two wins in doubles play.
Laura Baker and
Isabella Graf paired up to top Caroline Hunt and Mary Lawrence Newton, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles.
Abigail Randolph and
Emily Talley teamed up to defeat Cailin Goff and Puja Patel at No. 2, 8-3.
In the singles portion of the match, Baker defeated Patel, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, and Graf topped Hunt at No. 2, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Sam Munze bested Goff, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 4, and
Stephanie Hunter topped Mack Thompson at No. 6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.
Up next for Methodist will be an away match against Ferrum on Tuesday afternoon. The action is set to begin at 3:30 pm in Ferrum, Va.
