Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist baseball team defeated Guilford, 11-4, on Wednesday afternoon at Edgar McBane Field for its sixth straight victory.

The Monarchs (9-2) used two big innings to down the Quakers (8-7).

In its turn to bat in the second, Methodist plated four runs to assume a 4-0 lead.
Ray Lanners drew a leadoff walk, and
Tyler Hardee advanced him to second with a sacrifice bunt.
Lucas Scott coaxed a one-out walk to put runners on first and second. Lanners and Hardee each moved up a base as Guilford starting pitcher Lou Trosch threw a wild pitch.

Alex Rodriguez would plate Lanners with a run-scoring double, and then
Cody Molosky walked to load the bases with only one out.
Steven Kirby subsequently drew a bases-loaded base on balls to score Scott from third. Methodist would add two runs later in the frame for a 4-0 lead going into the bottom half of the inning.

In their next time to hit, the Monarchs tallied five runs in the third.
Pete Wildeboer started things off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Stephen Nalls moved Wildeboer to third with a sacrifice bunt, and Lanners drove him in with an infield hit.

Several batters later, Rodriguez drove in another run with a base hit to left, and Molosky followed right behind him with a two-run single down the left field line.
Chris Power capped Methodist's five-run third with an RBI single to score Rodriguez, which put the Monarchs ahead by a 9-0 margin that it would never relinquish.

Methodist finished the day with 13 hits in all, including multi-hit performances by Rodriguez (3-for-3), Hardee (2-for-2), Lanners (2-for-4), Molosky (2-for-3), Power (2-for-6) and Wildeboer (2-for-6). Rodriguez reached base in all five of his plate appearances, including a hit-by-pitch and a base on balls, and scored three times.

Jacob Shumate (2-0) started for the Monarchs and earned the victory as he threw two scoreless innings and struck out four..

Guilford had 15 hits as a team, including solo home runs by Corey Wallace (3-5) and Michael Whited (3-4). John Macon Smith added two base hits and scored twice.

Trosch (0-2) took the loss for the Quakers as he pitched two innings and surrendered two hits, four runs and four walks.

Methodist will look to extend its winning streak to seven as it hosts Piedmont on Friday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm at Armstrong-Shelley Field.
