Covenant Bests MU Baseball, 12-6

Box Score ZEBULON, N.C. -- Covenant College banged out 12 hits and took advantage of three Methodist errors in knocking off the MU baseball team, 12-6, at Five County Stadium on Friday afternoon.
 
Six of the Scots' 12 hits went for extra bases and the three errors by the Monarchs (18-12, 12-8 USA South) led to four unearned runs for Covenant (21-9, 15-5 USA South).
 
The Scots put up a three-spot to start the afternoon with a 3-0 edge after the top of the first. By the time the fourth inning rolled around, Methodist trailed by a 4-2 margin.
 
The Scots extended their lead to 10-2 with a combined six runs in the fourth and fifth. Alex Kerr lead off the fourth with a home run, and Will Carlton plated run another with double to left-center. In the fifth, the Scots crossed the plate four times courtesy of three base hits, a walk and one Monarchs fielding error.
 
Chris Power hit his first homer of the spring for Methodist, a solo shot in the seventh, as part of a 3-for-5 day at the plate. He also scored twice. Tyler Hardee had three hits, including a double. Michael Inman (1-3) started on the mound and took the loss. He pitched 4.0 innings and gave up nine runs (5 ER) on eight hits and two walks. He struck out one.
 
Chris Rollins went 3-for-4 with a double and triple for Covenant. Additionally he drove in a pair and scored twice. Alex Kerr drove in three runs, and Scott Gillespie had an 0-for-4 yet scored three times. Garrett Kriston picked up the win on the bump with 7.0 innings of work. He surrendered four runs (3 ER) on eight hits and two walks. He struck out three.
 
The two teams will wrap up their three-game series tomorrow with first pitch set for 3:30 pm.
