ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The Methodist women's tennis began its USA South Tournament title defense with a 9-0 victory against William Peace on Friday morning.
The Monarchs (20-2) opened the action with three doubles wins over the Pacers (7-9) and dropped only a single game in those three matches combined.
At No. 1 doubles,
Laura Baker and
Isabella Graf paired up to defeat Kristen Edwards and Zoe Littmann by an 8-0 margin.
Abigail Randolph and
Emily Talley won at No. 2 versus Alexandra Dixon and Abigail Nails, 8-1.
Linsey Gabris and
Sam Munze paired up to best Brooke Campbell and Kayla Zsido at No. 3, 8-0.
Baker won against Littmann, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, and Graf swept past Edwards at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. Randolph topped Nails at No. 3, 6-3, 6-1, and Munze defeated Dixon by a score of 8-0 at No. 4.
Emily Talley won, 8-0, versus Campbell at No. 5, and
Stephanie Hunter won against Joy Davies at No. 6, 8-1.
Methodist will square off with No. 5 seed Huntingdon tomorrow morning at 10:00 am.
