Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Monarchs men's soccer team started its 2014 campaign with a convincing 3-0 win over Bridgewater College on Saturday night at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The scoring began early in the match when
Seth Harrison netted an unassisted goal for the Monarchs (1-0) in just the third minute.
The Monarchs continued to hold their 1-0 lead throughout the remainder of the first half and into the beginning of the second. In the 57th minute,
Stefan Cyvin scored his first collegiate goal, unassisted, pushing Methodist's lead to 2-0.
MU's offense continued to put pressure on the Eagles (0-1) in the second half, outshooting them 10-1. With an assist from
Chris Ryan, Harrison headed home his second goal of the game, putting the Green and Gold at a 3-0 advantage with just under five minutes left in the match.
Alex Rabone (1-0), in his debut game for the Monarchs, earned the shutout. He allowed zero goals while making two saves. Bridgewater's Mark Davis (0-1) took the loss after making seven saves and allowing three goals. In all, Methodist bested the Eagles 10-2 in shots on goal. Harrison contributed four of those shots while
Eirik Nordseth added three.
Methodist returns to the Monarch Soccerplex Sunday, Aug. 31 to compete against Cairn University in the third game of the Army Strong Invitational presented by KFC. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
