Box Score BUENA VISTA, Va. -- Behind
Eirik Nordseth's four goals, the Methodist men's soccer team continued its impressive winning streak Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 shutout over host Southern Virginia.
The Green and Gold (4-0) got off to a fantastic start less than four minutes into the game when
Chris Murphy passed the ball along to
Seth Harrison, who easily slid his shot by Efren Gutierrez in goal for a 1-0 advantage.
The Knights (1-5) hung tough with the Monarchs for the next 30 minutes, but the visitors were able to find the back of the net in the 34th minute when
Eirik Nordseth tallied his first goal of the game, rebounding his first shot blocked by Gutierrez.
Methodist was quick to strike again, when
Stefan Cyvin would find the right corner of the net, putting the Monarchs' lead to 3-0 in the 40th minute.
Just one minute into the second half the Monarchs found themselves up 4-0 when a pass to the middle by
Frank Barone gave Nordseth a wide open shot, recording his second goal of the match.
Nordseth would continue to dominate for the next eight minutes, completing his hat trick after a pass from Harrison in the 50th minute and tallying his fourth goal of the match, a new career high, in the 53rd minute after a cross to the middle from
David Korneliusson bringing the Green and Gold to a 6-0 advantage.
The final score of the night came from another Cyvin goal after a forward pass from Korneliusson in the 57th minute.
The Monarch offense showed their strength, outshooting the Knights 26-4, with 17 on frame to their one.
Alex Rabone adds yet another win to his resume, taking the win for the Monarchs after 59 minutes of play, making one save.
Nick Martens registered 30 minutes of play was not pressured to make any saves. Gutierrez takes the loss for the Knights, making 10 saves while allowing seven goals.
The Monarchs continue their play on the road tomorrow at 2 pm against Marymount in Arlington, Va.
