MU Men’s Soccer Notches 5-0 Decision Against Marietta

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Methodist men's soccer team showcased its dominance once again with a 5-0 shutout against Marietta College on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Soccer Kicks Cancer MU Invitational. 

Methodist (3-0) was quick to get to the offensive half, taking its first shot just six minutes into the game. The Monarchs offense continued to put the pressure on the Pioneers (2-1), forcing Eric Pierce to make three saves in the first 18 minutes.

Seth Harrison made the breakthrough in the 22nd minute, netting an unassisted ball to put the Monarchs up 1-0. 

Methodist struck again 15 minutes later when Stefan Cyvin added his third goal of the season, bringing the Green and Gold to a 2-0 advantage. 

MU brought the same energy in the second half, as Nahom Hargwoin set up Eirik Nordseth for his first goal of the 2014 campaign in the 51st minute. 

Nordseth was quick to attack again, finding the back of the net just six minutes later, bringing the Monarchs to a 4-0 lead. 

Chris Ryan capped the scoring for Methodist, tallying his first goal of the season in the 62nd minute. 

The Monarchs' offense excelled over Marietta's, outshooting the Pioneers 15-2, with 13 shots on frame. 

Alex Rabone (3-0) earned the win for the Monarchs, making one save and allowing zero goals. In his first three games as a Monarch, Rabone has kept a clean sheet in each contest, holding a perfect 1.000 saving percentage. The loss was given to Pierce (2-1), who made eight saves on the day and allowed all five goals. 

Methodist returns to action tomorrow against the Panthers from Birmingham Southern College. The match is scheduled to start at 1 pm.
