DANVILLE, Va. -- Averett snapped the Methodist volleyball team's win streak at seven matches with a 3-0 win on Wednesday at the Grant Center.
The Cougars (14-7, 9-2 USA South) downed MU (14-7, 7-5 USA South) 25-17, 25-19, 25-23. Averett hit .238 as a team and had 11 service aces while MU hit just .145 and managed six aces.
Cassidy Hayes led the Monarchs with 10 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
Brittany Ter Meer added six kills, and
Ashley Beardsley chipped in four kills.
Maggie Harris handled the setting duties and had 25 assists.
Karly Klimas continued to close in on the school's all-time digs mark as she registered 21 and now stands at 1,760 for her career. She needs just eight digs to become the school's all-time leader.
Hannah Shields' double-double of 20 kills and 10 digs paced the Cougars on the evening. Sarah Smoot added 10 kills, and Keenan Marks added 41 assists and four service aces. Christiana Summa had 18 digs to lead the defense, and Lindsey Boles and Katelyn Holley had 12 and 11, respectively.
The Monarchs return to action on Sunday in a tri-match at LaGrange when it takes on Huntingdon at 12:00 pm.
