Nordseth Breaks Record as MU Men's Soccer Blanks LaGrange, 4-0

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Eirik Nordseth tallied his 61st career goal during Saturday's men's soccer 4-0 win over LaGrange, setting a new Methodist University record.

The previous record (60) was set by Michael Scobee in 1995.

The record-setting goal came in the 34th minute as Nordseth headed in a feed from Seth Harrison, putting the Monarchs (9-4-3, 6-0-2 USAS) ahead 1-0. Five minutes into the second frame, Harrison tallied his own goal, assisted by Gustav Fink-Jensen.

In the 53rd minute, the Monarchs gained a 3-0 lead as Ben Gold headed in a Fink-Jensen corner kick into the top right corner of the net.

Remington Christman tapped in the last goal of the match for the Monarchs in the 77th minute, after Haakan Wahlstrom fed him the ball about five meters out.

On the day, the Green and Gold outshot LaGrange (2-13, 1-7 USAS) 25-1 and 11-1 in shots on frame. Alex Rabone (9-4-3, 6-0-2 USAS) was awarded the win after all 90:00 in goal, making one save. The Panthers' starting goalkeeper, Bonner Brooks (1-3, 1-2 USAS) took the loss after making seven saves in his 90:00 in goal.

Methodist is back in action on Sunday as they host Huntingdon College at 3:00 pm. Prior to the match, MU will honor its five seniors, Nordseth, Gold, Rodrigo Diaz, Alec Baulch and Gabe Gooch.
