Methodist Men's Soccer Trumps Ferrum, 4-1

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's soccer team concluded its regular season play picking up a 4-1 win over Ferrum College on Thursday afternoon.

The Monarchs now hold an 11-4-3 record overall and are 8-0-2 in conference play. With the loss, Ferrum falls to 5-13 overall and 3-7 in USA South competition.

Gustav Fink-Jensen started the scoring for Methodist in the eighth minute, shooting the ball into the top right corner of the net for a 1-0 MU lead.

Haakan Wahlstrom made it a 2-0 game in Methodist's favor in the 15th minute, taking a pass from Trevor Hendricks at the top of the box and finding the back of the net after his shot bounced off the crossbar.

Two minutes later, the Monarchs went ahead, 3-0, as Fredrik Aalberg, assisted by Wahlstrom, beat Ferrum's starting goalkeeper, Derek Thomas, scoring from the center of the box, despite stumbling in the mud cause by Wednesday night's rain.

After the break, Rodrigo Diaz tallied his first collegiate goal after Karan Padmakumar sent a high cross from the right to left flank, and the Green and Gold gained a 4-0 advantage.

Ferrum recorded its lone goal of the match in the 75th minute when Moore Dolue took a feed from Alex Armstrong and out the final score at 4-1.

Alex Rabone started in goal and played the first 40:28 making one save. Jonathan Moore played the final 49:32 and made three saves for the Monarchs. Derek Thomas played all 90:00 and made two saves.

The Monarchs have earned the No. 2 seed in the USA South Conference Championships and will host a quarterfinal match on Saturday.
