GREENSBORO, N.C. — Second-seeded Methodist secured a spot in the finals of the USA South Men's Soccer Conference Tournament with a 1-0 win over No. 3 Maryville on Friday afternoon at Greensboro College.

Haakan Wahlstrom scored the game's lone goal with an unassisted strike from 20 yards out in the 71st minute to lift MU (13-4-3) to the win.

Wahlstrom's goal tilted an evenly-played game in the Monarchs' favor. MU held a slight edge in total shots, 11-10, and put four shots on frame to the Scots' (14-3-2) two. Methodist did have a decided edge in corner kicks, earning six to just two for Maryville. 

Alex Rabone played all 90 minutes in goal for the Monarchs and made two saves on the day to pick up the win. Jon Taylor was in goal for Maryville and came up with three saves.

With the win, the Monarchs will take on the tournament's top seed, Greensboro, on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The two teams have met once this season, playing to a 3-3 draw on Sept. 27.
