NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Methodist women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 9-0 to Christopher Newport in the final game of the CNU Quad on Sunday. The Monarchs are now 2-1 on the year, while the Captains advance to 3-0.

The Captains took an early 3-0 lead after having swept through doubles play. CNU's McKinney Harwood and Kate Huck edged MU's Isabella Graf and Sam Munze, 8-6, at the top spot. At No. 2, Katie Carlson and Meili Konell defeated Abigail Randolph and Emily Talley, 8-5. Alexandra Drye and Logan Eldridge downed Davi Barbour and Stephanie Hunter, 8-1, in the No. 3 matchup.

The No. 1 singles match up sent Methodist's Graf against CNU's Harwood. Harwood ended on top, dropping Graf, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 2, Drye cruised past Munze, 6-0, 6-1 and Carlson bested Randolph, 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 3 line. In the No. 4 spot, Eldridge captured a 6-1, 6-2 win over Barbour. In the fifth singles matchup, Dockrill finished with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hunter and the final singles game saw Huck defeat Riley Zopp 6-2, 6-3.

The Monarchs will open home play on Sunday at 2:30 pm when they host neighbor Fayettevile State University.
