MU Women's Tennis Blanks Averett, 9-0

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist women's tennis team toppled the Averett Cougars on Friday afternoon, 9-0. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 7-5 on the season, while AU falls to 1-6.

Methodist grabbed an early 3-0 lead after doubles play. At No. 1, Emily Talley and Sam Munze bested Hannah Mattson and Katie Abelseth, 8-1. The pairs of Davi Barbour/Riley Zopp and Stephanie Hunter/Linsey Gabris both cruised past their opposition, 8-0, at the second and third doubles matchups.

The Green and Gold also grabbed all six singles matches. At No. 1, Isabella Graf topped Mattson, 6-1, 6-2, and in the second match, Munze blanked Jessie Gomes, 6-0, 6-0. In the third line, Barbour bested Abelseth, 6-0, 6-3, and at No. 4, Vatrice Williams defeated Andy Jobsis 6-1, 6-0. In the fifth singles matchup, Morgan Mann took a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Angelica Orlikowski and in the sixth match, Audrey Greeson defeated Melissa Sanchez, 6-1, 6-0.

The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Staunton, Va. to take on Mary Baldwin.
