ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The second-seeded Methodist women's tennis team secured a spot in the championship match of the 2015 USA South Athletic Conference women's tennis tournament with a 5-1 win against No. 6 seed Piedmont on Saturday.
 
Wins at the first and second doubles helped the Monarchs to a 2-0 lead as Isabella Graf and Sam Munze downed Amanda Blackwell and Nicole Parrish, 8-2, and Emily Talley and Abigail Randolph bested Durden Smith and Morgan Cowart, 8-2.
 
Singles play was altered due to inclement weather, as the matches were forced to move inside and were played to result. In the top spot, Graf defeated Wade, 5-2, and at No. 2, Munze topped Blackwell 6-3, 6-0. In the third matchup, Randolph registered a 6-2 win over Parrish, while at No. 4, Davi Barbour posted a 6-3, 7-5 win over Smith. Stephanie Hunter toppled Coward, 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 5 spot, and Vatrice Williams edged Karina Rivera, 5-4, at No. 6.
 
The Monarchs will be back in action on Sunday at 8 am as they take on the No. 1 seed, N.C. Wesleyan, in the championship match.
