FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. --
Eirik Nordseth scored a pair of goals, but Greensboro tallied two second-half goals in a six-minute span in a 3-3 2OT tie on Sunday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The Pride needed just over 15 minutes to take a 1-0 lead as Shaun Watt got a head on Stevenson's corner kick and was able to beat MU's
Alex Rabone. In the 29th minute, Nordseth made it 1-1. He was fouled in the box and easily converted his penalty kick, beating Jaime Payamps to his right.
In the second half, the Monarchs scored a pair of goals in the first 12 minutes to take a 3-1 lead. Nordseth scored the first goal, tapping in a ball that had been sent across the goal mouth by
Trevor Hendricks.
Fredrik Aalberg's unassisted goal in the 57th minute made it 3-1.
Carlos Barragan scored on a well-executed free kick from just outside the box that made it 3-2 just over 10 minutes later. Six minutes after that, Watt scored on another header, this one off the foot of Robbie Barnes to tie the game at 3-3.
The best scoring chance for either team in either OT period came in the first when
Haakan Wahlstrom's shot deflected off Payamps and appeared headed in before getting cleared off the line by a Greensboro defender.
The Monarchs held a slight edge in shots, 13-11. Rabone made four saves on the game, and Payamps had two for the Pride.
Methodist will host N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
