HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Methodist volleyball remained perfect early in the 2015 season, sweeping a pair of matches at the EMU Invitational on Friday evening. Methodist defeated Eastern Mennonite, 3-1, and followed that with a 3-0 sweep of Goucher to close out the first day of play.
The Monarchs (3-0) defeated EMU (2-1) 25-22, 25-17, 25-27, 25-19 to open play, and followed that with a 25-19, 30-28, 25-20 win over Goucher.
Cassidy Hayes led the Green and Gold in their opening match with 14 kills while hitting .343. She also added a pair of blocks.
Chyenne Pump had 12 kills and 13 digs for a double-double.
Taylar Stafford chipped in nine kills and
Jordan Tew added eight.
Maggie Harris came up with 43 assists and 10 digs, and
Karly Klimas led five players with 10 or more digs with 26.
Alyssa Coffey had 10 digs, and
Renee Hooser had 11.
In the nightcap, Ter Meer led MU with 13 kills and hit a robust .611. Hayes added 11 kills and Pump and Tew and seven kills apiece. Pump had her second double-double in as many matches with 15 digs. Klimas once again led the squad with 18 digs, and Harris had 41 assists to go with three blocks. Hayes came up with five blocks. Tew had four service aces with Coffey chipping in three.
Methodist is back in action on Saturday at 12:00 pm when it takes on Hood, followed by a 2:00 pm matchup against Catholic.
