HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Methodist volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the EMU Invitational hosted by Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs defeated Hood, 3-1, and followed that with a 3-0 loss at the hands of Catholic.
MU (4-1) downed the Blazers, 19-25, 25-17, 25-18, 18-25, 15-13 to open play and then fell to the Cardinals, 25-15, 25-15, 25-20.
In the win against Hood,
Ashley Beardsley led the way with 13 kills, and
Cassidy Hayes and
Brittany Ter Meer each had 12 kills.
Chyenne Pump added eight kills and 18 digs, and
Karly Klimas recorded 13 digs.
Defensively, Ter Meer added three blocks.
Maggie Harris had 50 assists and a pair of service aces.
Pump led the offense in the second match of the day with nine kills, and Beardsley and Hayes had eight and seven, respectively.
Alyssa Coffey notched 14 digs to go with a pair of service aces, and Klimas had 13 digs. Harris once again directed the offense to the tune of 18 assists.
Methodist returns to the court on Saturday when it plays at St. Mary's (Md.) at 12:00 pm.
